The Melanage™ Skin Lightening System is a light chemical peel developed by Young Pharmaceuticals to address the texture and tone of the skin and improve or lighten areas of hyperpigmentation within the skin including those with a condition called melasma.

How does it work?

The procedure consists of an easy, in-office application of a medicated masque followed by an at-home regimen of applications of several Melanage products following masque removal. There is little-to-no irritation during the application of the masque, and typically, the irritation level on the following days is more like a sunburn.

The peel’s affects are obtained through the action of two chemicals: Hydroquinone and All-trans-Retinol.  Retinol works by reducing corneocyte cohesion within the top layer of skin called the epidermis as well as increases kertinization to promote new healthy appearing skin.  Hydroquinone works by inhibiting the tyrosine kinase enzyme within melanocytes to block the production of melanin, the chemical which pigments our skin.

What can I expect?

Although individual results can vary, patients generally will see significant improvements in the skin tone and texture with lightening of the dark spots within the skin. Although most patients will experience peeling following the treatment, not every patient will notice this. Even if you do not peel significantly, you will still experience increased collagen production within the skin, diminishing fine lines within the skin, and improvements in the tone and texture as well as pigmentation within the skin.

The Melanage™ Skin Lightening System may be applied every six months if needed.  Please inform our staff if you have a history of active warts or cold sores. If you have taken or are taking Accutane, you should not use this therapy or any other skin resurfacing procedure until after one year of discontinuation of this medication.
